MALIBOU LAKE AREA, Los Angeles County — The Bryson Fire, which started in the western Malibu mountains on October 15, 2026, was 100% contained on October 19, according to an October 22 account published by the City of Malibu.
City officials said the fire burned approximately 146 acres, with no homes or other structures reported destroyed or damaged. One firefighter was injured, and the cause remained under investigation at the time of the city report. The incident began near Encinal Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway, not in the Malibou Lake community itself.
Why this matters in the mountain area
The blaze underscored the importance of accurate evacuation-zone information, redundant communications and up-to-date household plans for communities throughout the Santa Monica Mountains. A closed road, safety power shutoff or cellular interruption can complicate travel even for residents outside a fire perimeter.
The city’s update says partners worked to sustain traffic signals, support mobile communications and provide charging resources during the incident. Residents should follow verified alerts for their specific zone when a future emergency occurs.
